Online learning platforms might be getting a bad rap, but the very fact that educational experts are still debating this has nothing to do with the fact that they are effective at transforming the way students learn. Unfortunately, though, new reports seem to show that such platforms are not working as well as many had hoped. So, if you are reading this article, you may be one of those who are still enjoying the rush of progress that a degree-focused online program brings with it. If that is the case, then let’s take a look at the allegations made against online learning programs as far as quality is concerned.

Online Education Spills The Dollars

As we all know, online learning works by utilizing a video-based learning model, where instructors present material in a live environment. The idea behind this is to ensure that students are able to overcome any problems that may arise during the course of the course. On the other hand, videos are not ideal for giving students quality support and coaching. The same issue applies when it comes to helping students study, particularly in a lecture-based format.

To avoid this, instructors who teach online must use a mix of live-streaming videos and video-based courses to raise students’ comprehension and attention levels. This ensures that they get what the instructor is trying to impart. But is that really the problem that online learning is having?

Time Problem

One of the more well-known methods of delivering an online class is to use a web-based video-based course. Yet, many instructors struggle to succeed due to lack of time. That is why so many students are still attending online classes rather than going to a classroom. It seems like an easy way to organize a class and earn extra cash at the same time. However, it is also proving to be a costly method.

Fortunately, many online educators manage to make it work. But they would do well to remember the time constraints imposed by the students, because it can prove detrimental to the programs.

Digital Admissions

So, online learning programs have been on the rise for a while now. They have only recently come under the spotlight, though, after a study conducted by Georgetown University said that such programs are not effective at converting students into productive workers. In the course of the study, it was found that online learners find it hard to complete their schoolwork and had to spend more time on homework. After the class is over, they also tend to forget about their work because they get distracted by other activities.

This showed that online education is failing to meet their expectations because online course materials are too easy to make for the student. This could be an issue for employers, too, as their interviews would end up lasting too long, which increases the chances of recruits losing their jobs.

Badly Education Programs

The most unfortunate aspect of online learning programs is the fact that many of them have been formed under questionable universities, sometimes known as for-profit universities. These are institutions which offer low-cost, short-term degrees that are conducted at university level. But they do not have the required credits to carry out the credential completion process.

Not only this, but a student may get a certificate for completing an online course rather than a university degree. So, when it comes to completing an online degree, a few years back they may have just got a degree rather than a degree for their body. This is not ideal for students, as it does not offer a suitable completion process that could ultimately propel them into a better job market.

Scam Schools

Some education institutions have taken the form of colleges to mislead the student into thinking that their course content is of a high quality. In reality, many of these schools are just scams. Not only that, these colleges are also breaking the law, creating unwarranted bonds and charging huge amounts of money for a course which is completed by just about 40 percent of the students.

Conclusion

It seems that most online learning programs are not properly implemented and are failing to help students to effectively complete their education. So what should online educators do? The only way to improve this situation is to roll out video-based courses that allow instructors to provide students with support and feedback. Offering a quality graduate program that is accredited by an institute accredited by the American Council on Education will go a long way in ensuring that a student can complete their degree.
