What Is The Most Popular Online Learning Platform?

The best teaching platforms use the latest methods to deliver on-demand educational courses. Here’s a list of the leading learning platforms.

You’ve probably heard that some of the largest companies on the planet offer their employees online classes. University of Phoenix is one of the largest names, followed by Kaplan College and DeVry.

Find out which has the highest current number of participants, and find out which is the most popular overall.

Online learning and learning for an hour or two each week aren’t exactly new concepts. But many new companies are offering multiple courses or a portfolio of coursework. For example, you can easily find online courses that teach professional learning, or life skills, or new job experiences. Or you can check out a course that is based in South Africa and teaches just about everything about South Africa.

What Do You Want Your Career To Be In Two or Three Years?

Surprisingly, none of the mentioned companies use a single platform, and that is a trend that was listed in our online learning survey. The next most popular was Codecademy, with teachers offering very specific instructions, while Coaching Club offers something more informal. Read about those in our report on our methodology.

The Average Experience Of Our Survey Participants

You may have heard that college students have an average 6-week post-graduation experience, but how many are actually learning during this time? The data wasn’t broken down that way, but we can at least get a baseline for how many people attend a specific program while in school.

64% of the people taking the survey were between 18 and 25. That’s a pretty wide age range, but the majority were quite young, with the youngest in the survey (4 years old) at the youngest age. The oldest person in the survey was 72. That brings up some interesting questions about college requirements, and a claim that many feel may be false.

On average, our survey participants had started their first program in October 2018, and they had completed about one hour of their new course within 30 days of submitting their responses. However, many of them had started their programs later. For example, some students began right after graduating from college, and many went on to graduate school. So, there are a variety of learning tools that our participants could have used, but they chose to use something based on their previous education.

The Survey Results Are In

Everyone learned something! What everyone learned from the website was based on their education level. Do you think that is a better way of learning?

This isn’t that scientific, but we can still learn quite a bit from our data. One important result: most of our study participants are probably using as many tools as their money will allow.

Some took more courses than others, while some took the courses with friends. But it seems that money is a huge motivator, and that money may not matter as much as many people thought.

What about the community aspect? Are most people trying to help each other learn the same thing? It sure seems that way. We did learn that 69% of our survey participants were using AltSchool, and these were mainly in the learning about city life option. That may be for obvious reasons, but if this wasn’t the case, it could make finding people in need easier.

We heard a lot of anecdotal anecdotes about using free online courses and quizzes, and how important that was for learning. People spoke about having to pay over $300 a month for a program that they said they “didn’t really need” or wanted the money for college loans. A few mentioned how great it was to share tips or information with others. Others mentioned being unable to pay for an online course because they were too far from home, and their family wouldn’t allow them to bring back a money gram. It seems that many people are putting in the work when learning online, and don’t want to pay for it.

Finally, there were a few people who had no type of financial need. They were more than willing to take an online class because they want the benefit that online learning provides. Many of the participants said that making connections online was one of the main benefits of the program, and people in the classroom in person seemed to prefer it.

What do you think? Is online learning making a difference for you, or is it something you wouldn’t do anyway?
