Let’s face it, if you are not performing according to your expectations, there are always consequences. They just happen in a metaphorical manner: pay more to a tutor who is way less experienced than you.
What Is The Importance Of Time Management In Any Online Or Face To Face Learning Environment
If you’re addicted to your smartphone you may have already mastered time management — or are at least trying to. When you can focus on only one task at a time it’s easy to keep everything on track. Unfortunately, though, managing your priorities in the real world just isn’t that easy.
When I start a new project I focus on the first thing that needs my attention. If the restaurant that had my last reservation doesn’t receive a tip I continue to spend money on something else. If I’m interested in learning Japanese I skip over marketing efforts and first make the whole operation my top priority.
But that’s not always the most effective approach. In situations where you have to decide if you’re going to prioritize certain activities over others, you need to find the balance that will benefit you the most. Knowing how to organize your attention is just one of the skills that have helped me be better at managing my time.
Time management isn’t always a two-way street; it’s about helping your goals change to match your environment and be more powerful. So it’s not enough to know that time management is the best way to handle your obligations, at least not from the outside. You have to be willing to alter your behavior to meet the needs of your coworkers or customers or whoever you’re working with.
Start in your own workplace
Your time management lesson may start with the goal you want to achieve. But because you know time management is a job you need to do from the outside, it’s not enough to stick to the patterns of the time you’re trying to manage — you have to adjust the way you approach it from the inside. Here are some steps to try:
· Learn to manage your attention as a whole; things tend to take on a special significance when they’re on your mind all the time. Learn how to ignore one task so you can focus on others.
· Draw attention to the task at hand. Make it a priority that you schedule, and it’s likely that others will also notice it.
· Tap into the world around you. It’s easy to block out the rest of the world with our digital devices. Make contact with the world and let it blossom into a task that requires your attention.
To turn it around and apply this approach to a real-world problem, ask yourself what kind of interaction you expect your team, customers, or other members of your organization to have with you. Think about how you could improve things. Develop a plan that helps you find and resolve the underlying issues.
A few examples of what you could be tackling include things like:
· A lack of creative thinking. A bunch of your teams don’t work together, for a variety of reasons that you can try to address.
· Your client or the challenges they face are changing — you can’t keep up.
· You aren’t gathering enough feedback or getting enough of it — your clients don’t respect you or your service.
· Your human resources process needs tweaking. In your learning process there are distractions, leaks, and errors — you’re likely to see them too.
· Your customers are different. They’re more likely to ask questions and value feedback in new or even different ways. So you’ll need to think about how you’re creating your interactions in more creative ways.
Strategy 3: Automate
Automation has become an important aspect of your business because it automates tasks that are much like those you handle every day — they’re repetitive, and using software can keep up with your growing workload.
Technological advancements have created the ability to monitor workloads, allocate resources, and spread out your tasks across multiple computers. For example, a tool on your computer will be able to send you email with instructions on how to keep from drowning in your inbox. You can automate other crucial work too, like checking and responding to files and attachments.
With timescales on a computer you can make life easier, faster, and, most importantly, you can turn off the distractions so you have the mental space you need to deal with things most important. Technology like this will allow you to free up your time and therefore make time management a two-way street.
