Where has the emphasis of online learning gone? Considering the worldwide evolution of learning style is a ripe topic of conversation. Open source suggests that students and teachers prefer the study mode. Online Learning needs the implementation of a structured approach. Programs often implement one-size-fits-all grading procedures such as normal, yellow, or green. Students eventually stop looking at the mark to understand their competency, and they start to focus on the lesson. How can we prove the effectiveness of the analysis?

Standardization is a principle of learning. There are many ways to ensure that every student receives a high-quality instruction. The final grade point average determines whether the student succeeds or fails and progresses. Testing and assessing has become the standard practice across the world, especially for students who do not receive regular access to a classroom or school. According to a survey of 1,030 Canadian students, more than 70% have been tested during the second semester, and more than 90% have tested at least once during the first semester. Unfortunately, this process is too generic and disorganized for students and teachers. Without having enough teachers that are properly trained to use the grading system correctly, many programs default to giving the letter grade, and sometimes students stop paying attention. This can lead to students losing confidence.

Online learning has progressed significantly since the first online version of lecture went live in the mid-nineties. Today, students want to choose from a variety of learning styles, including private interactive sessions, in-person classes, or virtual ones. Students can take as much or as little time as they need to absorb what they are learning. In the past, students had been afraid to ask for help, and even when they did, the teachers never got back to them. Today, online education provides the opportunity for open feedback. Individuals can share a story on social media, answer questions on forums, or help out with homework. Technology allows students to communicate directly with their teachers and offer immediate input on any issue. Students can participate in a conversation via videos, texts, live questions. The content quality is much higher and students can focus on other topics while sharing notes or transcriptions on digital platforms. Because of this, program creators now have an opportunity to reach a much wider audience and to engage teachers and students in a more effective manner.

Is it always the right format for each student? There are a variety of ways to optimize the learning process. Open source suggests that programs should assess students each semester for each learning style. Students should be offered different content, such as professional and technical texts, or more-realistic exercises in which they use real-life problem-solving techniques. This provides students the opportunity to learn as much as possible in each session. However, there are some limitations to learning styles. Students tend to share their assessment experiences and perspectives on social media in a very public way. There is also a delicate balance to be made in which to integrate too much learning into too short a period of time. Equally important is the responsibility that should be placed on the students to prevent or at least limit the amount of sharing of information and their assessments.

Finally, students need assurance that they will receive feedback. Online learning methods are beneficial for students who do not have the opportunity to attend a classroom. Many students have similar needs as in-person lectures. However, students still require some accountability. In the past, students were intimidated by homework assignments and tests that were too difficult. Because there is no one to hold the door open, students are distracted and motivated less. Today, online learning is changing the classroom experience by bringing tools into the curriculum that are helpful for both educators and students. Therefore, when the popularity of a program increases, we should keep in mind the student’s needs to maintain a happy environment.
