Students have many ways to get up to speed on the latest trends. Even when you’re located far away from your college’s campus, you might still want to stay on top of what’s happening, especially if you’re interested in a different type of career. Here are some options to get you started.

1. Udemy

Maybe you already use Udemy to learn guitar, photography, and more. The Web-based learning platform also has different paid courses for specific subjects such as The Protein Solution, while you can just choose any one that appeals to you. Even if you don’t have enough credit hours to take online classes, Udemy is a great way to expand your learning from a fellow student, and some of the courses have special discounts for U.S. military members.

2. Google’s EdX

Yes, this is another U.S. based company but you can find out about what’s happening in your country in Google’s EdX classes. The free platform lets people in different fields access free courses based on topics that they are interested in. For example, if you have a specific interest in local conservation, then you will find out about local community gardens or programs that support local wildlife conservation when you visit Africa. EdX also has resources for people interested in teaching, and features forums where people can share feedback about any of the courses that they’ve taken. EdX courses are free, but you have to pay to access materials, so you might want to think about getting a referral if you want to take the final assignment.

This is a similar platform to Udemy but if you’re more interested in international students, then you might prefer Udemy ISES.

Similar to Udemy, you can access thousands of free learning tools for students of all backgrounds. Coursera is a platform built by a Stanford University professor, Dr. Andrew Ng, for people to get high quality online lectures from some of the most influential people in the world. Online courses are usually lead by a doctor, scientist, business leader, or another big name, but for some subjects they offer access to professors from other universities around the world. Coursera classes can also be paid online courses and you can also take classes for tuition credit.

5. MachineMind

MachineMind provides its users with a platform that lets anyone create a learning experience. There are many different free courses available on this platform, including one that teaches entrepreneurs how to design and build their business. Another course covers cognitive science, giving you a better understanding of how we make decisions and how we can apply that knowledge to other areas of the world. There are also subscription-based courses for those looking to upgrade their skills.

6. Coursera University

If you’re interested in becoming a teacher, then there’s an opportunity to sign up for a free course to learn how to teach. Coursera University focuses on how to help teach in preschool, elementary school, middle school, and high school. There are many different classes on this website, including ones on reading and language. Coursera University also provides resources to teachers, including a search tool and interactive discussion forums, so that you can answer questions and discuss training sessions with other teachers around the world.

7. SmartKidSchool

SmartKidSchool is a free platform that teaches kids how to use technology at home. The website has apps to help you with math, reading, and science. You can’t take classes on this site or on the various apps that it features but you can connect with other parents and access important tips on parenting. There are even community chats available.
