What Are My Skill Sets, experiences & Expectations That Will Help Me Succeed In Online Learning?

Bizzar is proud to announce that our massively open online classes (MOOCs) are opening up to the community for external feedback. “We’ve received lots of valuable feedback from students since our beta launch earlier this year,” says Bizzar President Charles Phan.

In online learning programs, it’s not just about getting good grades, but also about learning how to flourish in the classroom. With years of work and training under your belt, there’s little shame in being placed on a number – be it a temporary assignment, class or engagement with a mentor.

Rather than the struggle to finish a major course, or the endless brainstorming sessions, online education is a stepping stone to careers, looking to get the most out of your time spent in the classroom. In many ways, it’s the difference between finishing school and graduating college.

Here are ten questions to ask yourself to know what you’re looking for in an online learning environment, and how to find the right programs, mentors and professors to help you learn as much as you can.

1. Do I Have The Skills & Interests To Learn What I Need?

With online courses, experience with e-learning can help you develop your new found skills and interests. Students without college credits can drop classes and find practice material to find ways to learn the material.

2. Will I Learn Without the Lectures?

There are online classes, blended courses, online leaders and online coaches. It’s important to know what fits your specific skill sets, and if the content is often something you could tackle on your own in the future.

3. Do I Enjoy Talking And Learning About The Topics?

Taking on online courses is a great way to make friends with your classmates, and to learn from them in more personal and less impersonal contexts.

4. Are There Meaningful Lessons I Can Learn From?

With online courses, it’s often a question of learning not just facts and information, but also how to effectively apply the material learned.

5. Do I Have A Lack Of Specific Tasks To Pursue?

When you first choose an online program, it’s often with the intention of pursuing a particular area of study and actualizing your goal. Do you actually have any skills necessary to complete the program and benefit from its digital learning experience?

6. Does It Fit Me?

If you’re interested in working in an area and do not have the required skills and experience, it may be difficult to obtain a secure position in a job that requires the skills you would have needed to excel there. It could also hinder your ability to move on from the program into another one. In many cases, employers want candidates who actually have those kinds of work-related skills.

7. Do My Admissions Testing Required For Admission?

Some programs may have very specific admissions requirements. Ask the administrator at the program whether your application would need to be re-voiced due to the program’s admission requirements. In some online education programs, college-level testing may be a required part of an application for admission. Check your options before submitting any materials.

8. Is There Professional Growth Opportunities?

You’ll also find people willing to teach you specific skills, and make you better experts in their subject areas. The education never stops.

9. Are There Deeper Conversations About Online Education And Education Issues?

You’ll also find people willing to teach you specific skills, and make you better experts in their subject areas. The education never stops.

10. Are There Remote Partners Or Mentors?

Many programs offer classes where you can hold the role of teacher, or even a producer. Find the right program to satisfy your goals and need.

A great way to be ready for all online learning environments is to do some homework beforehand to really know what you want to learn. This is not the time to settle on anything, but to truly know what you need to move forward.
