It’s a modern-day classic: a sitting student writes an essay and secretly uploads it to the internet as a test—that one in the test answer block.
Unless there’s a way to read the whole essay in the original format before the test is given, you’re definitely in for a rude awakening at the end. Not only are you wasting your time, you’re potentially cutting a great deal of study time.
Big data can help you improve. In fact, it can help you completely transform the way you learn—it’s all about reading and applying big data to your skills.
All of the articles I’ve looked at here are pretty general. They’re all very general, but useable. So, in my final article, I’m going to take a look at what actually works.
Turning Your Big Data Readings Into Subject Ideas
Having an intellectual, technical know-how isn’t the main reason why people like going to school. For many students, the value is in the preparation for the tests—I know this sounds trite, but it’s completely true.
This is where big data tools can help.
Many online courses are designed to cover a vast range of topics. In doing so, the instructor starts to teach you the basics of the subject at hand. As the students start to get better, it becomes apparent how to apply your ideas to the material.
As a former student, I can honestly say this is the best use of big data.
At the end of the class, you have a big chunk of material to work with. In my case, it would be the fifth grade and the topic of flip charts.
In my old textbook, I could read the teacher’s lesson about a flip chart. All I had to do was read the test questions. It was easy for me to solve the problems and know how to write the correct answers.
Well, I have the same textbook for the fifth grade, but this time I use it for the material I’m working on. Instead of reading the teacher’s lesson, I look for issues and really analyze the ideas to learn how to write in a slightly different manner.
Under the previous textbook, it would be easy to answer the questions fairly easily. But in my new textbook, it’s tougher.
I take the fifth grade material and my brain turns into a big computer, staring at the program for a long time with very little results. I have to break down the lesson and help my brain reach the point where I can think as clearly as possible.
I read the problems of the fifth grade, and once my brain understands what’s happening, I’ll know how to use the material in my grade.
What’s valuable to you?
Once you’ve learned how to use big data tools to teach yourself your core subjects, there’s more that can be done with them.
I’ll give you an example.
In my old physics class, we were told to watch a video at the end of the class for an experiment. We learned about the experiment (are you ready?), and then we watched the video.
But instead of just watching the video, you can take a book, put it in the front row, and read. You may have to read very fast, but at least you’ll know how the thing works and what it says.
With all of this done, you’re ready to take the test. But what if you had a tool that could look up what you were learning in a book and that book was open?
I had a book that went back a few years, but I didn’t know the whole first chapter of it. You may think, “That’s a whole chapter I already know about!”
Nope. I had to go back to the start and read all the way to the end of the chapter, which would have been really hard if there wasn’t a big tool that could make this a snap.
Big data has a lot of good uses, especially when it’s focused in a particular subject.
