We’ve all been there before. You’re wandering the aisles of your favorite store, trying to decide what to buy, and then the retailer has a pop-up e-commerce site where you can view not only merchandise but the items themselves. Sure, the store still exists, but you can see the merchandise online. Such apps were available a few years ago, but this isn’t the future. According to the McKinsey Global Institute, e-commerce is expected to surge for next five years, with online sales growing to 20 percent of total retail by 2022. So, what’s the big deal? Who cares? It doesn’t matter, in fact, I think it can improve our lives.
Here’s why: There’s a huge market for online learning. I don’t say this for any political agenda. My big reason is, we’re not talking about how online learning will change college. We’re talking about online learning that is changing our economy. I’m not talking about technology or government intervention. I’m talking about tech creating jobs. And, that’s what I believe online learning can do.
In fact, I have a case. If you stop and think about it, these words were on one of my social media accounts years ago. It says:
Creativity is hard to find. But, because of technology, things are getting more and more easy to do. How I want to communicate with you. How I’d like you to do things. The way I want you to achieve something in your life. This is important. But, there is something essential we have to remember. It is not just that you have to learn more, it is how. Technology has changed a lot. Education has to follow that trend.
Let’s start with the basics. Even with technology being a blessing, sometimes creating is hard. Some of us may need a manual. It’s true that technology has brought that. But, the good news is, online learning is making it easy to create. On one of my social media pages, I have a collection of articles about how to create a collage, how to draw, how to make a collage, how to plan a camping trip, and many more.
I made a collage myself.
The point? Think of something that needs to be done or create something new. My point? Online learning is not just about technology, it’s about creativity. That’s what online learning makes possible. After all, if you want to design your own designs for clothes, buildings, or weddings, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to do it. Yet, that’s what online learning is doing: It’s making creativity accessible to everyone.
Online learning is removing barriers that keep people from creative thinking. And, it’s allowing everyone to have a creative mind. It’s about technology and the process of learning. And, if you ask me, that’s no bad thing.
Some online learning is not only for the creative mind. Sometimes it’s for the practical mind. That’s because while creative design requires creativity, it also requires problem solving. Not only that, but we also face a variety of problems that lack the creativity and problem solving of these creative projects. Online learning is making solving these problems much easier.
In fact, there’s a big difference between creativity and problem solving. People like to say that you either do a concrete job or do a creative project. But, I think that’s a limitation. There are a whole lot of solutions that do one or the other, but no two solutions do both. The key is that both solutions exist. What’s more important is that they are both possible. Online learning opens up a world of possibilities for solution-finding. And, I believe this is what is helping to create opportunities in the world, not merely knowledge.
So, what can you do? Here’s my suggestion: Start looking for an online learning platform that works for you. Make sure you can complete courses within 12 months. You’ll increase your creativity, you’ll lower your time investment, and the skills and knowledge you build will benefit you for the long haul.
And, no, I’m not giving up on physical education for me and my family. I know what you’re thinking, but that’s not the case. I’m just changing how I learn.
