Without being completely specific, it can be seen that investors are taking on higher risk. Here’s why.
Hardest Thing About Online Learning And How Can I Improve
Speaking this morning on an online education podcast, I read through more than ten different responses from the co-host of the show. The common theme was really quite fascinating: Online learning is hard.
For many, it is absolutely!
Online learning and degree programs can be really difficult for those that do not need to think and act like adults in order to succeed and improve the learning. People may want to think they don’t need to adjust and do things differently, but ultimately you must adjust to fit the programs at a given institution.
Conversely, people who love learning and learning how to learn while out of traditional school settings may not like online programs in general because it is time consuming and seemingly difficult to differentiate yourself.
Here is a quick, simplified thought experiment.
Imagine you are sitting at home and reviewing some of the materials and you only need to know a few simple things. Can you see why people get interested and take an interest in online programs?
The truth is, the age of online learning and degree programs are changing rapidly and for the better. Do not believe that the old methods of getting educated are dead. They are becoming more adaptive. However, the fact is that now many more opportunities are out there to learn and acquire the right information at the right time for the best learning outcomes.
Look at these metrics that reflect great learning programs. They reflect research conducted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign:
Results look like this:
There are so many benefits online programs offer over brick and mortar programs. Most importantly though, online learning is getting so much more attention and is driving more that higher rates of progress.
Here are two very fun stories to share on this topic.
The first one is about an amazing online program called Robert Ross. A high school dropout who was working at UPS to support his family, he decided to quit his job and come to the University of Central Florida to earn a degree. He has experienced nothing but success. He started out on the path to his dream – becoming a social worker – and has not looked back. I can tell you from experience, earning a degree, helping people and being part of a community are very fulfilling. It is a great feeling! This is what we call “Internet Signing Up.”
The second story is about Mark Lefkowitz. I have long written about Mark, who set out to become a commercial mortgage loan originator. I can tell you from experience, I have a whole family who are working just trying to get decent paying jobs. The Lefkowitz family has accomplished some amazing things over time, all while using online learning and an online trading platform called Tradeworx. What Mark accomplished in one semester and what he will accomplish in two years is absolutely amazing. Mark is going to be commended as a great role model for entrepreneurship and work ethic.
An overview of Mark’s situation is found below.
“The following [piece of his program] was: “Anticipating the Law, What Your Lawyer Can’t Tell You. Part One: Preparing for Debt, Understanding the Road Ahead of You.”
“Anticipating the Law, What Your Lawyer Can’t Tell You. Part One: Preparing for Debt, Understanding the Road Ahead of You.” As Mark wrote, the law rarely knows what you need. Do not be a statistic! Accept that the lawyers working for you are just that – the lawyers, and look for the best opportunities to educate yourself.

There are numerous online tools and programs that you can use to enhance your experience at a given institution. “I’ve always liked to use a planner in place of a planner – probably just because, when times are going good, I tend to lose myself to the material. When the days are tough, I prefer a planner.” “I’ve always liked to use a planner in place of a planner – probably just because, when times are going good, I tend to lose myself to the material. Mark is doing exactly what many do – taking an online program in an institution to do something great and gain the knowledge and skills he needs to make a life for himself.
All in all, know what you are doing and your options. Know how to make online programs even better for you.
